Jesus said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” (Luke 18:27)
Many would be followers of Christ think that God will one day add up their good works and their bad works; and if their good works out-weigh their bad works, then they will get into heaven. While it might make perfect sense to our way of reasoning, it is really a delusion.
I hear people say, “I really try to keep the Ten Commandments.” That’s great! We should all do that.
However, there are two things you need to understand about that endeavor:
- It is impossible to do, because scripture says if you mess up one part, then you mess up the whole thing.
- Trying your best to keep them is not what gets you into heaven.
The Jewish Law in the Old Testament, of which the Ten Commandments are a part, is intended to be a mirror that shows us how dirty we are. Unfortunately, the mirror cannot wash us. So in our case, one of the purposes of the Law is to bring the sinner to Christ.
The Law can bring the sinner to Christ, but the Law cannot make the sinner like Christ. Only grace can do that.
You are living under a delusion if you think you can do it any other way.
