A habit is some way of acting which, because of repetition, becomes a normal part of our lives. Now, we all have habits; all kinds of habits.
While all believers have freedom in Christ, we also have a responsibility in the way we use that freedom. Paul writes to the Corinthians…
“I have the right to do anything,” you say–but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”–but not everything is constructive. – 1 Corinthians 10:23
Beyond the obvious, how do you determine which habits of yours are constructive and beneficial…and which ones are not, and therefore should be eradicated? It is easier than you might think.
The bottom line is… a good habit will have God’s name on it.
How do you know if a habit has God’s name on it?
- God is a God who forgives sin and sets us free
If the habit is setting you free from sin then it has God’s name on it.
If it is enslaving you in sin…then it does not have his name on it.
- God is a God who is to be honored and glorified
If the habit brings honor and glory to God…then it has God’s name on it.
If it brings glory to anything/anyone else…or dishonors God…then it does not have his name on it.
- God is a God who is building His Kingdom
If the habit builds up the Kingdom of God…then it has God’s name on it.
If the habit is destructive in the Kingdom of God…then it does not have his name on it.
While it is true that everyone has bad habits, the question is, “Are you ready to deal with your bad habits?”
When will you begin the process? I hope today will be that day for you.
Gratefully,
