Fear can be a good thing. Fear keeps the child from picking up a poisonous snake. Fear of repercussions keeps people from stealing. Fear of health concerns may keep us from eating poorly. The important thing is what we fear. If we fear irrational things it can debilitate us. Pogonophobia is the fear of beards. That type of fear could really hinder your everyday life.
The Bible encourages us to fear God rather than man. “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” -Matthew 10:28
“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” -Galatians 1:10
We should fear disappointing our God just like we would fear to disappoint our earthly father. God has been so good to us. He is so big and so powerful, why would we possibly fear man’s opinion over God’s?
Fear can protect us or paralyze us. It all depends on what we fear. Fear the Lord, obey His Word, follow Him and you will never regret it.
