Don’t Get Too Comfortable

John 14:16 -18 says, “I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;  Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you”

Jesus promised that even though He was leaving earth, He wasn’t leaving us alone. He was sending the Holy Spirit to be our comforter. But Francis Chan asks this question “Why would we need to experience the Comforter if our lives are already comfortable?” Following Christ is not comfortable. That is why Jesus described it this way.

Then Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 16:24, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”

Maybe you’re not experiencing the Holy Spirit working in your life because you are spiritually apathetic, lethargic, and comfortable. If you’re following Jesus you will suffer. Paul told Timothy “All that live Godly will suffer persecution.” Stop, pray right now and ask God if you’re too comfortable. Then ask Him to send you out of your comfort zone.

In Christ,
Pastor Phil
