In the book of Esther we have seen the story of a woman who stood up against her fears and decided to have faith even if it killed her. She is brave and courageous. We also see the picture of a prideful and self absorbed man named Haman.
Haman wanted everything and thought he deserved it all. He felt like he deserved to be worshiped and bowed down to. His pride told him that he was better than most people. He especially hated the Jews, in his mind they were the worst of the worst. When the Jewish man Mordecai didn’t bow to him, Haman couldn’t stop thinking about it. He put a plan in place to murder Mordecai. Haman’s pride pulled out the worst in him and in the end he suffered the consequences.
Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”
Pride led to Haman’s destruction. Let’s ask God to search our hearts for any pride today. Is there a race of people I look down on? What do I think I deserve from people? What makes me angry about when people don’t give me what I want?
Esther humbled herself and said “my life is worth giving up if it means I can save my people.” What area of my life do I need to give up to help people?
Why don’t you pause, and pray and let God shine a light on any area that needs to change.
