- Act It Out

So when the apostles came together, they put this question to Jesus.‘Master,’ they said, ‘is this the time when you are going to restore the kingdom to Israel?’ ‘It’s not your business to know about times and dates,’ he replied. ‘The Father has placed all that under his own direct authority. What will happen, though, is that you will receive power when the holy spirit comes upon you. Then you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judaea and Samaria, and to the very ends of the earth.’ Acts 1:6-8
Sometimes I’m ornery. If we are driving a large distance I can get a little annoyed by my kids asking how long it will be until we arrive at the destination. Sometimes instead of giving them an accurate answer I say things like “We have four days left.”
Well, Jesus had told the disciples how His kingdom was coming, and they knew of the prophecy of Israel being restored. So the disciples ask Jesus is it time? Are we there yet? But the disciple’s question emphasized the restoration of Israel. And Jesus had something else that was on His mind at the moment- the spreading of the gospel to all the world. So Jesus tells them, it’s not your business to know the times and dates. Jesus didn’t want them to look past what He was about to do right now. The Holy Spirit was about to indwell them and they were about about to be launched out across the world to bring the gospel to the ends of the earth. They were concerned about the political status of Israel when God was about to do something huge through them.
So what is Jesus wanting to direct your attention to in your life? What are we worried about that is none of our business? What are we focused on that we can’t control?
We may be missing what Jesus is wanting to do with us right now. Just like the disciples, God wants to send you! Maybe it is across the world or maybe it is across the street.
