Leave people better than you found them. This week, we asked you to consider the following question, and to allow yourself some time for self-examination: After someone experiences five minutes of your presence, how do they feel?
Rarely do we realize the magnitude of a brief encounter with a friend or stranger, but those moments could be everything for somebody else. Those few minutes with a friend or a stranger could be draining and defeating, or loving and life-giving. That short conversation could be discouraging and destructive or encouraging and uplifting. How do people feel after 5 minutes with you?
I don’t know about you, but I tend to take better care of the things I borrow than the things that I own. We all tend to follow the rule when we borrow or use something that belongs to someone else, “Return it in better condition than it was before.” Pray this week that when we encounter others, we leave them in better condition than they were before. Choose to be warm, loving, and encouraging in your encounters. Your life is so much bigger than just your life, so leverage it for the well-being and best interest of others today. Leave people better than you found them.
