For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. – Luke 19:10
In Luke 19, we meet Zacchaeus, a man desperate simply to see who Jesus was. Though wealthy and powerful, he was isolated by his sin and rejected by his own people. Jesus stops beneath the tree, calls Zacchaeus by name, and invites Himself into his home. This moment reveals the heart of Christ. Jesus does not ask for repentance before offering presence. Grace comes first. By choosing to stay with Zacchaeus, Jesus shows that salvation begins by saying yes to an invitation from Him, not by proving worthiness.
The result of that encounter is immediate transformation. Zacchaeus responds with repentance that goes beyond words, restoring what he had taken and giving generously to the poor. Jesus declares that salvation has come to his house and reminds the crowd of His mission, to seek and to save the lost. This story reminds us that true repentance flows from grace, and that those who recognize they are lost are the ones most ready to be found. When Jesus is welcomed in, changed lives always follow.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for seeking me when I was lost. Give me a curious and humble heart that welcomes You fully, not just into the safe places, but into every room of my life. Let Your grace change me from the inside out. Amen.
