Grief is one of the most personal and profound experiences we face in this life. It shows up in many forms: death, disappointment, missed moments, broken relationships, or dreams that never came to be. What we often fail to realize is that grief doesn’t ask for our permission; it finds us. But the good news is that God meets us there. Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” That nearness doesn’t always mean immediate answers or fixed feelings, but it does mean we are never alone in our sorrow. God doesn’t demand that we “get over it.” He invites us to bring our pain to Him and sit with Him in it.
The journey through grief is not linear; it loops, surprises, and sometimes overwhelms. But it is not wasted. Jesus, the Man of Sorrows, understands and holds space for our tears. And while grief is never easy, it can be a tool for deeper intimacy with Him if we allow it. In the middle of the ache, don’t silence your pain or shut people out. Be honest with God. Be open to others. And when you feel like falling apart, fall into the arms of the One who conquered death and promises that one day, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes” (Revelation 21:4). That day is coming, but until then, grace is with you in the valley.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for being close to the brokenhearted. In the moments when grief feels too heavy, remind us that we are not alone. Help us to be honest with our pain and to bring it to You instead of hiding it or running from it. Strengthen us to walk through this valley with faith, knowing that You are the God who sees, who comforts, and who restores. Teach us to lean on others and to be a comfort to those walking a similar path. Thank You for the hope of resurrection, that death and sorrow don’t get the final word. We trust You in our sorrow, and we wait on You for healing. In Jesus’ name, amen.
