Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment. -Proverbs 18:1
Addiction isn’t just about drugs or alcohol, it’s about anything we turn to for comfort, identity, or escape when what we really need is God. Often, addiction hides beneath the surface in socially acceptable forms: approval, achievement, busyness, entertainment, even food or our phones. These “lesser loves” promise relief but ultimately leave us emptier than before. At its core, addiction is a heart issue, a misplaced longing for something only our Creator can truly satisfy. Jesus isn’t surprised by our struggle. He sees through the symptoms and into the ache. And with compassion, He steps forward and says, “I Am.” Not “I might be,” not “Try harder,” but “I Am everything your soul is crying out for.”
If you’re in a cycle of shame or secrecy, healing starts not with strength but with surrender. The first step toward freedom is admitting, “I can’t do this on my own.” We can’t heal what we won’t reveal. God has designed us to walk together, to carry each other’s burdens, and to remind one another of the truth when lies are loud. Maybe today you’re the one silently whispering, “I need someone.” Or maybe today, God is calling you to be the “someone” for someone else. Either way, the answer is the same: Jesus. He is the way out, the way through, and the only one who can truly set us free. Don’t numb the pain, bring it to the One who heals. Don’t isolate, press in. You’re not alone, and you don’t have to stay stuck. Jesus is near, and He is enough.
Jesus, I confess that I’ve looked to other things to fill what only You can. I’m tired, I’m struggling, and I need You. Help me turn away from what’s been holding me back and turn fully to You. Be my strength, my healing, and my hope. I can’t do this alone, thank You that I don’t have to. In Your name, Amen.
