The gospel isn’t about working harder, it is about surrender and rest. We believe the lie so often that God is out there waiting for us to present a perfect version of ourselves to Him, but the truth is God came and achieved righteousness for us through the perfect and sinless life of Jesus. We could never work our way to God even at our best, but Jesus already paved the path to God for us. We no longer boast in our own works, but we boast in what Jesus has done for us. God is our boast.
Over the last few weeks in our series “God Unknown,” we uncovered some big truths about God. First, the truth that God is bigger. God is bigger than we realize and can’t be placed in the boxes we try to confine Him too. We are constantly tempted to create God into our own image, and while we may not reject God, we reduce Him to something too small for worship. God is bigger than that! We also talked about how God is better. God is better than any of the idols we look to for security and joy, and God is the only one that can ultimately satisfy. We can place God-like weight upon other things, but they were never meant to support the weight of our souls. Lastly, we wrapped up the series remembering God is our boast. We boast not in our own works to try to earn salvation, but we boast in the finished work of Jesus who took on our sin to gift us righteousness.
God is bigger. God is better. God is our boast. Preach these truths to yourself over and over when your tempted to believe differently about God.
We love you church!
