Sometimes, it’s easy to get caught up in thinking about the church as an organization with committees and procedures and we can get distracted that the church is a place where people meet Jesus. Over the last 175 years, there have been countless people who have been looking for something, perhaps moving to a new town and they are searching for community. So, they gather up the courage to walk into our doors on Sunday. They were welcomed with warm smiles and a sense of belonging. As they sat under the faithful preaching of God’s word, they gave their lives to Jesus.
Over time, deep friendships formed. People met their spouses, had kids, and raised them at Clarksburg Baptist Church. When they once were visitors, now they are family, volunteering to lead a VBS or an Adult Sunday School Class. They saw their children get saved and baptized and graduate high school. So, as we commemorate 175 years of our church’s journey, let us remember the countless stories of love, faith, hope, and transformation that have transpired within our walls. Our church has been home to so many people. Tears have been shed, lifelong bonds have been made, and people have followed Jesus together.
Let us continue to press toward the goal of the high calling of Christ Jesus and let all who come behind us find us faithful. Let’s continue to be a place where new people find warmth, belonging, and the irresistible love of Jesus Christ.
