Every summer growing up, we went to tent revivals. The men in the church would erect a tent big enough to seat 200 people. They spread sawdust on the floor and invited gospel groups to come and sing. It looked like the circus was in town. It was hot and sticky. Most nights I would fall asleep long before the service was over. We went every night for a whole week. There was a story told every year of a man years ago that wanted to surrender his life to Christ, so he went to the front of the tent during an offering and jumped in the barrel they were using for giving. This must have been a sight to behold: a grown man with his heading sticking out of a barrel like a rodeo clown. But this story is a perfect picture to symbolize this verse.
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. – Romans 12:1
As followers of Jesus, we are challenged to give our whole body and all that comes with it as a living offering to Christ. We are supposed to jump both feet into the offering plate. When we use the word “give” in our mission statement, we don’t just mean to throw a few bucks in the offering. We mean we give our time, talent, and treasures to all and then let him do with it what He will.
How much does God have of you? Are both feet in the offering plate or just little tokens given to appease your conscience? Pray and ask God now to search you and help you be a living sacrifice offered up to God as an act of worship.
