Joseph’s story reminds us that following God often means surrendering our own plans. When Joseph learned that Mary was pregnant, his world must have felt like it had fallen apart. Yet instead of acting out of anger or fear, he listened to God’s voice and chose obedience. Matthew tells us: “When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him” (Matthew 1:24). That single decision shaped the rest of his life and gave him a part in God’s plan to redeem the world. Like Joseph, we may not fully understand what God is doing, but we are invited to trust Him and obey, even when it’s costly.
What stands out most about Joseph is that he is silent in the Bible, no recorded words, only faithful action. His life reminds us that sometimes our obedience speaks louder than our words ever could. Whether it’s providing for our families, protecting those God entrusts to us, leading faithfully towards God, or simply walking in quiet trust, God sees our daily obedience. This Christmas, may we remember that the same God who worked through Joseph’s quiet faithfulness is still at work through ours.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the example of Joseph, who trusted and obeyed even when it was difficult. Help us to choose faith over fear, obedience over doubt, and humility over pride. Teach us to live in such a way that our lives reflect Your love, even in the quiet and ordinary moments. This Christmas, may we trust Your plan and find peace in knowing that You are with us, Immanuel, God with us. Amen.
