Basic Questions Related to Wealth to Help You Evaluate Your Heart

The Bible does not say it is wrong to be wealthy. Just as an example, Abraham was a wealthy man and the Bible tells us he was faithful and obedient. However, if you ask people, believer and non-believer alike, you will get a wide range of views on wealth, itself. Some believe wealth is totally evil and others believe that God’s greatest desire for them is that they acquire wealth.

I actually think both extremes are dead wrong, because they focus on the actual physical wealth and not the heart. We have to remember, everything in life goes back to the condition of the heart. After all, the Bible does not say that “money” is the root of all kinds of evil, but rather the “love of money.”

So, the place to start, when it comes to wealth, is to focus on the heart. That’s “your” heart, by the way, not the heart of someone else. Their heart is God’s business, not yours.

Here are some basic questions, related to wealth, to help you evaluate your heart. Answer honestly and then read the accompanying scripture.

• Are you content that you have food and clothing? 1 Timothy 6:8
• Are you acquiring your wealth through hard, honest work while treating others with respect and fairness? Ezekiel 22:27
• How are you going to respond if you answered “no” to the previous question? Luke 19:8
• Why do you think you are blessed with wealth in the first place? 2 Corinthians 9:10-11
• Where is your wealth invested? Matthew 6:20
• Have you built any barns lately? Luke 12:16-21

How did you do? If you need to make some adjustments, don’t worry. God is pleased to help you make them.

Your Pastor,

David Hulme
Senior Pastor
