Even if we have never had to provide a verbal answer, there is a question that is answered by our actions every day. That question is: Do you want to be used by God to make a real difference or are you content to be mediocre?
While I hope you want to make a real difference, the reality is that far too many of us are spending our lives stuck in mediocrity. You know what I’m talking about. Your life’s not that bad, but then again, it’s not that good either.
Jesus himself tells us that mediocrity is not the best He has to offer…
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10 NIV)
Mediocrity is a thief and too many Christians are letting mediocrity rob them of the full, abundant, extraordinary life God has planned for his children.
Hebrews 12:1-3 gives guidance for those desiring to get unSTUCK from their life of mediocrity:
Look at the winners: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses…” (Hebrews 12:1a)
Winners inspire us to get unSTUCK and move beyond our mediocrity.
Look at yourself: “…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us…” (Hebrews 12:1b)
What are the “weights” and “sins” holding you back and keeping you stuck? Identify them and get rid of them.
Look to Jesus: “…fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2)
“To look” means “to trust.” It describes an attitude, not just a single act.
Consider Jesus: “Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” (Hebrews 12:3)
Do a complete analysis. In doing so you will find that not only is He the perfect example to follow out of your mediocrity, but He is also the one who gives you the power to do it.
If you do these things, in no time you will find yourself moving beyond your mediocrity and on to the great things God has planned for your life.
Gratefully,
