What Are You Full Of?

If you take a full cup and add something to it, like a golf ball, that cup will overflow. You can’t add to a full container. What are you full of? If you are full of self and following desires, you can’t just sprinkle a little Christianity into your life and expect things to go well. The Bible encourages us to empty ourselves of ourselves and instead fill ourselves with the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:16 says, “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”

How can I know whether I am full of myself or the Holy Spirit? Well, someone that is full of the Spirit will produce the Fruits of the Spirit. The evidence of the Holy Spirit is these: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. What does it look like if I am full of myself instead of the Spirit? 2 Timothy 3:1-5 paints a picture of what it looks like to be full of self.

“But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.”

Read those verses again and then take some time to let them read you.

In Christ,
Pastor Phil
