Have you ever gotten into a stupid argument? Maybe it was when you were a child when you argued about whether your dad could beat up another dad. Maybe the argument was more recent when you thought you could change someone’s mind with a snarky comment on their Facebook post. The Bible warns us against being quarrelsome. The word quarrelsome means “Apt to argue; given to contention; easily irritated.”
Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. – 2 Timothy 2:23-26
We need to make sure we have matured away from childish arguments. A quarrelsome person is not a good witness for our wonderful Savior. Do you find yourself in arguments often? Is it easy to lure you into a fight? Do you look for contention? Stay away from unproductive arguments, they are foolish and hurt the furthering of the Gospel.
In Christ,
Pastor Phil
