I used to work with children a lot. For years I would teach kids church, or plan VBS’s. I still love it when I get the chance to do it. I used to love to lead the kids in a game of “Extreme Simon Says.” The rules for the game were normal but only much, much faster.
The leader speaks says “Simon Says” and the contestants follow. Sometimes things would even get a little strange like “Stick your finger in your nose… now stick it in your ear.” The kids would laugh and laugh. It surprised me how many kids followed that instruction.
You know the Bible talks a lot about FOLLOWING. It tells us not to follow after mischief, our own desires, sin, wickedness, the world, money… ect.
To follow means to walk behind, watch, act like, pay attention to… stick close to…admire… appreciate…
The Bible tells us there is one person that we’re supposed to follow.
Luke 9:23 “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
Jesus says leave your wants, and your interest behind and follow after Him.
1 Peter 2:21 “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.”
These verses say we all have a mission to do! The mission is to live as Jesus lived! Follow Him! He didn’t sin! He didn’t talk back to the people that beat him, even though Jesus was innocent. In fact, he took all the lies, disobedience, and anger that we had. Then He died for it on the cross!
We need to follow this Sheperd like little sheep when it gets dark, we run to Him when we get lost we look for Him.
John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
Jesus loves you more than anything! Follow Him! He has great plans for your life, follow Him! He knows you better than anyone else, He knows what you need! Follow Him!
John 12:26 “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.”
In Christ,
