According to the Association of Police Communications Officers, the radio code 10-43 means “In Pursuit.” Most of us can probably recall the harrowing police chase of a 1969 Dodge Charger owned by Bo and Luke Duke. That vehicle seemed to be in the air more than it was on the ground, jumping trains, rivers, and semi trucks. Boss Hogg was always in pursuit of those Duke boys. But when it came down to it they were just some good ol’ boys, never meaning no harm. Someone was always in pursuit of the “Dukes of Hazzard.”
Each of us is pursuing something, whether it’s comfort, status, fame, value, or wealth. Each of us makes hundreds of decisions a day, many of them decided by what we are chasing.
1 Timothy 6 talks about the kind of things we should be in pursuit of: “… for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.” (1 Timothy 6:7-11)
God has an amazing plan for your life. Pursue Jesus like Boss Hogg pursued the Duke boys! Chase after the things of God! The best part about it is God is not running away from us, in fact, the Bible says “draw near to God, and He will draw near to you!”
Not only should you pursue Jesus but He is pursuing you! Spend some time this week connecting with the One that made you. Quiet your heart, quiet your mind and wait on God to speak. Read and savor His words. Pursue the eternal not the temporary. Run away from anything that distracts you from the most important pursuit. Pursue Jesus!
In Christ,
