- Jesus Is Better

You remember playing “Follow the Leader” as a young child. There is a person in the front that sets the direction and those behind fall in line. If you were in the back of that line, you might not even be able to see the leader. But you had faith that the person in front of you was following the leader, so you followed them.
In 1 Corinthians 11:1, Paul says, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” We need to make sure the leaders that we place around ourselves are following Christ. We also must check our motives and direction to be sure we are following Christ because people are following us as well.
Jesus was a pioneer in leadership development. He surrounded Himself with teachable people we call the disciples, and He poured into them. He invested in their lives and taught them how to press on after He was out of the picture. As Christians, if we want to pass on this great gift of the gospel that the generations before gave us, then we have to invest in the people behind us.
A primary role of a leader is to develop other leaders as Jesus did! If you are serving at Clarksburg Baptist Church, you ought to be looking for someone to train to do what you do. Leaders grow best while doing. Ask someone to help you in children’s ministry, ask someone to stand with you while you greet people.
But don’t use people, care about them! Invest in their marriage, invest in their lives. The Bible commands us to love one another and be present with each other more than just in a pew on Sunday.
For CBC to be the church God wants us to be, we need to focus on being and developing dependable, teachable, caring, and proactive leaders! Let’s ask ourselves how we can be a leader more like Jesus, and how we can develop leaders as Jesus did.
In Christ,
Pastor Phil
