I remember as a kid camping with my friends. We’d sit around a bonfire, and it would be pitch black around us. Eventually one of us said, “What was that?” When we asked what they were talking about, the first person would reply “I thought I heard something!” The rest of the night our imaginations would run wild, thinking of all the things that could be out there.
In an effort to gain our attention, society, media, politicians, and corporations have continually played on this strategy. Everyone is trying to tell us that we are in danger or peril in some form or fashion. It is working. We are perhaps the most anxiety-ridden generation, which is ironic because we are most likely the most comfortable generation. We do not have to worry about where our next meal comes from, or where we are going to sleep tonight.
Instead of worrying, turn off the news, stop scrolling, and quietly reflect on this truth for a few minutes:
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
You have a voice that you can trust. God wants to speak to you through all the noise. Listen.
In Christ,
