“…you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” – 2 Timothy 3:15-17
If you are building a house, you have to have a firm foundation. The same is true for your life and the life of the church. As believers in Christ, the Bible is our foundation.
The Bible is our foundation because it illuminates for us the way to salvation. It reveals to us the truth about who we are and our need for a Savior. Not only does it reveal our need, it offers us the solution to our need. It is, however, important to note that salvation does not come by believing the Bible, but by trusting the Christ who is revealed in the Bible.
The Bible is our foundation because it is God-breathed. We believe the Bible is the Word of God and that every word written in it is from God. What a beautiful image; God breathing His life into ours through His Word.
The Bible is our foundation because it is useful. It is not just a book to study. We can actually use it to teach what is right, to rebuke what is not right, to correct in order to get things right, and to train in order to stay right.
Do you want to know the love and grace shown to us through Jesus Christ? Do you need a firm foundation on which to stand? Do you need a reliable guide to know truth from falsehood? Do you need a proven, consistent, and trustworthy standard for living? If so, it is all available to you in God’s Word, the Bible.
