Esther is a Jewish woman living in Persia and is being raised by her cousin, Mordecai, because her parents died. She was taken to the King of the Persia to become a part of his harem. But because he saw something special about Esther, he made her queen. Mordecai, however, didn’t tell the king that Esther was a Jew.
Haman, an advisor to the king, detested the Jews and he devised a plot to destroy them. He told the king that they do not follow the laws (Esther 3:8) and that the king shouldn’t tolerate them. The king allowed Haman to take care of the situation as he thought best.
Esther was the only Jew that had access to the king. Mordecai convinced Esther to speak to the king about the Jews. He tells her that God has placed her in this position for a purpose (Esther 4:14).
And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this? – Esther 4:14
Mordecai is explaining the purpose that God has for Esther. However, Mordecai is also saying that God has a divine plan for everyone and everything. Therefore, He believes Esther was given special favor by the king in order to be a vessel for God’s work. Despite being an orphan, God used Esther in great ways. God gave her great beauty so she would find special favor from the king.
We often face obstacles and struggles in our lives that can be difficult to get through. However, we must always remember that God has a plan even if you cannot see it. Without challenges we must realize that we would not grow into the person God needs us to be.
No matter how devastating a situation, we must have confidence that God’s Plan will prevail. Know that everything will work out because you trust in the one true God. Never forget that God had a plan for Esther and God has a plan for you too!
